About
A curated directory, not a listings site
The Brush Guild is an independent, hand-curated directory of studios and painters who take commission work on miniatures — chiefly Warhammer 40,000, Age of Sigmar and Dungeons & Dragons figures. It exists to answer one hard question honestly: whose hands should paint your army? Nobody pays to appear here, and nobody pays to rank higher.
Who curates it
The Guild is run by a single editor who reviews every studio and every image by eye. That is deliberate. Commission painting is a high-trust, low-volume purchase — a buyer spends hundreds or thousands of pounds on work they cannot inspect until it arrives — so the judgement that matters is editorial, not an algorithm and not a pile of unverified reviews. When the directory recommends a studio, a person stands behind that.
How a studio earns a place
Every studio listed has cleared the same bar before appearing:
- A real, current portfolio of genuinely well-painted miniatures — the grid is only as good as its weakest photo, so the work has to hold up next to everything around it.
- A live studio with a working site or shop and a real way to commission them, not a dormant account.
- Physical miniatures the studio actually painted — no stock imagery, no renders, and no AI-generated pictures posing as painted models.
- Honest, legible signals a buyer needs up front: the games and factions they paint, their quality tier, rough pricing, turnaround and whether they are currently open.
Our promise on images
A photograph of a painted miniature belongs to the person who painted and shot it. We treat it that way. Every image in these galleries is published under a licence given in writing by its creator, and we keep our side of that deal simple and generous:
- Credit and a link on every appearance — the painter's name and their site or socials, always.
- The creator keeps every right. Our licence is non-exclusive; it is permission, never a transfer.
- Revocable at any time. One message and the image comes down within five working days.
- We only ever crop, resize or convert an image for layout — no compositing, no edits, and never used to train AI models.
- Never re-used in advertising or marketing without asking separately, each time.
We never host Games Workshop's official art, box art or renders — only real miniatures painted by the studios and creators themselves.
